Free Dog Safety Workshops to Support Responsible Pet Ownership
Did you know the number one cause of death for dogs isn't trauma or disease, it's euthanasia due to behavior problems? Five million dogs will be euthanized this year.
That's right, five million! It's time for everyone to "bone up" on responsible dog ownership.
Each year the AKC® hosts Responsible Dog Ownership Day events during September to educate the dog-loving public about the importance of being a responsible owner. More than 500 AKC-affiliated clubs and other organizations around the country participate by holding events in their local communities.
In support of the AKC and to promote responsible dog ownership, Bark Busters is offering free dog-safety workshops for any community-based organization through October 15, 2008, subject to availability. These free community workshops will give participants dog-safety tips while helping them understand how to communicate more effectively with dogs.
During the workshop, participants will learn how to recognize the signs of fear and aggression by reading a dog's body language. In addition, the hour-long workshops will include important dog-safety guidelines.
Workshop participants will also receive a free "Pets Inside" safety window decal. The "Pets Inside" decal asks emergency personnel to "Please save our pets," and features space to indicate the number of dogs, cats, birds and other pets that live inside the home.
